Tragic End for NEET Aspirant from Reva: Kota's Coaching Hub Sees Another Suspected Suicide
The girl, hailing from Reva district in Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly depressed over her poor performance in NEET, according to the police.
An 18-year-old NEET aspirant died allegedly by jumping from the ninth floor of a building here, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the NEET-UG results, in which the victim, Bagisha Tiwari, scored 320 out of 720 marks. This marks the tenth suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year, they said.
The youngster, who is from the Madhya Pradesh region of Reva, was reportedly depressed because of how poorly she did on the NEET, the police said. Bagisha, who had spent the previous three years studying at this coaching center for the medical entrance exam, is claimed to have leaped to her death on Wednesday afternoon from the building where she lived, which is located inside the boundaries of the Jawahar Nagar police station.
Circle Inspector (CI) Harinarayan Sharma of Jawahar Nagar police station said to PTI that the youngster lives on the fifth floor of the building with her mother and brother, a Class 12 student and JEE candidate. On Wednesday afternoon, Bagisha arrived to the ninth floor and leaped out of the balcony window after attending her institute's classes. A passerby tried to stop her, but Sharma said she was unstoppable. He said that after being taken to a private hospital nearby, she was treated there for about an hour before dying.
Following a postmortem, the police turned over the body to the family and opened an investigation in accordance with Criminal Procedure Code section 174 (inquest). Although the precise cause of the girl's drastic action is yet unknown, the CI stated that preliminary investigation indicated that she was disappointed with her NEET score. He continued, "We still don't know if the girl left any suicide notes." Vinod Tiwari, the deceased's father and an engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Reva, told reporters outside the mortuary that he had asked his daughter not to be angry about her NEET score.
According to Vinod, he even assured Bagisha that he could pay for her to be admitted to a private college's medical program. He also said that his daughter was extremely industrious and devout. On Thursday, Kota (City) Superintendent Amrita Duhan issued a warning, threatening to file a criminal complaint against news outlets for showing the purported suicide act's CCTV footage. With 26 incidents recorded in 2023—the highest number ever—Bagisha's death was the eighth suspected suicide case involving a coaching student in Kota since January of this year.
